Cons: I was under the impression that booking with Discovercars.com was a one-stop-shop deal. I didn't worry about the rental again until we got to the desk to get the car, at which point we were informed that we had to purchase additional insurance or we would not be able to rent the car. We spent an extra couple of hundred dollars, but we needed the car to get to our destination since it was late at night. I would look up other rental companies in the future, although I wonder if this is standard.

Pros: High demand- took 1 hour to see an attendant due to the line. But once it we did they were very efficient. They were very helpful and professional.

Cons: They advise a cheap rental price but they force you to pay for their third party insurance wich is 3 times more expensive then the actual car rental and they tell you the price in US then they switch in pesos when it's time to pay with an horrible exchange rate so it ends up being 4 times more expensive then what it was supposed. Huge scam! Also, the car was pretty old and in not So good shape, many scatches and the breaks were not very responsive. Never again.

Not obvious on website 3rd Person Liability is legally required when they know it is necessary. Surprise you while hostage at counter so you have to buy from them rather than prearrange from home.

Cons: I was still asked to take some insurance, that was mandatory and my full coverage from my broker didn’t include that. The total cost of this insurance would have almost doubled the total price of my rent. There was no info about it beforehand. If it is mandatory why not to include it in rental price? Anyways after putting my foot down and I said that I didn’t have that information and it says that I don’t need to take anything, then they finally offered an option to take deposit.

Pros: They had someone who spoke English when returning not picking up. I speak enough spanish but not to get into details of the contract. Especially the additionally $400 it costed that I wasn't expecting.

Cons: We recieved a car with a slow leak in the tire. Had to fill the tire up twice a day and finally switched to the spare tire. luckily it was a full spare and it got us through our vacation. Definitely added some stress driving. Based on Discoved Cars, we only had to pay $126 when we picked the car up. THIS WAS FAR FROM THE CASE. I was charged $527 which was very misleading and would have chosen a National Car which I am more familiar with and know how the fees work (would have saved over $200)

I understand that insurance is mandatory, but their rate is absurd ($310 for 3rd party damage insurance alone for 6 days) and was not disclosed as mandatory until the last minute when we had no other choice. I found this practice scammy and predatory and would not rent from them again.

Despite doing all the research, booking ahead of time to guarantee my rate and using a Credit Card with an Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver implicit in its benefits, MEX RENT A CAR refused to rent me the car unless I paid $60 a day for it instead of the $13 a day, which I had originally booked it for. It was an absolute scam experience and i do not recommend going there to anyone ever again. Watch out.

When we arrived to the car rental we were asked for a credit card deposit for 24.500 MXN. When we used our credit card to leave this deposit the employee at Mex said that the deposit “payment” didn’t go through. We tried a couple of times, but with no luck. We called our bank and they ensured us that there are no limits

Pros: The front desk man that we filled out all the paperwork with was very gracious and understanding when we were having trouble with insurance matters. The discover cars coverage was not accepted at Mex rent a car and so we were very confused about what coverage we needed from Mex and about additional charges upon arrival. Note that if you are not a Mexican insured driver the cost of your rental increases 7x because you have to buy the liability insurance coverage which is not offered by discover.

Cons: First car provided broke down not long after we collected, why are they not checked?!? Roadside assistance very basic and the person sent had no tools other than using his own battery. When calling each time the person on the end of the phone would start using whatsapp instead and hang up with no warning. There was a long time between messages and, while we were broken down, had to move around outside the car to ensure signal. Had to call for updates as nobody was proactive in contacting us.

Cons: When I arrived in Cancun, I was told Discover Cars paid a deposit with what you charged to my credit card, but that did not guarantee me with a car so they had no vehicle for me. In checking with other rental car companies at the airport, I would have to pay $800-$1300 USD for the 6 days. That being too costly, I had to pay $125USD each way, from and to the airport. Not pleases at all and requesting full refund of my deposit or I will be reporting this company and putting bad reviews online.

Cons: I know about the mandatory liability insurance for care rental in Mexico. When booking, MEX website had unclear info. and tricked me to buy two insurances that sounded like the right ones. When picking up the car, the agent told me what I had was not enough and asked for additional $430 for the "real" mandatory insurance. When asking for more clarification, he replied "what's there not to understand". I ended up leaving the place without a car and lost $65 deposit. BAD BAD service

They also gave me the car with ZERO gas, I had to take an extra risky drive to find a gas station and then I had to deliver the car with obviously more gas than I received it with.

It happened to every one of the 4 people in our group who rented a car there.

You need to improve communication to customers and your hire providers.

I know the amount is $2,500 as a hold because I rent cars in Mexico and insure my own vehicle when going to Tijuana. They gave me the car with the Petrol on empty. The Fuel light was flashing and I had to find a station very quickly to not run out. Was told to return the car empty. This is almost impossible and I returned it half full without reimbursment.

I am still waiting on a credit since when I prebooked the car for around 600.00 and as of now my charges are at 1168.68. I have no idea how or why it could be this much. Overall it was a horrible experience like nothing I have ever seen after renting 100s of car in the past all over the world.

They looked at the video and agreed the rental was damaged prior to us receiving it.

According to their website "All of our rates within Mexico includes third party liability up to $750,000.00 MXN (RLP) and coverage for the vehicle rented in case of an accident or total theft, with a 10% deductible (CDW)." However, use of Discover Cars invalidated this, costing me an additional USD 28 per day!

Cons: I had my own insurance and they forced me to take their insurance which was exorbitantly high. I will no longer book with bad car rental agencies that hide their costs. I have rented for years and always opt out of the car rental insurance with no problem. They are scammers and find any way to make extra money.

There was not and a lot of people were stuck waiting for one to never come. Probably missed flights because we almost did and they had earlier flights than us. There was extra charge for third person liability but I kind of counted that it would be that way and therfore it was fine and I was prepared for it. Overall really good experience.

Cons: When we collected the car we noticed the “flat tyre” light was on the dash & asked the staff member about it. They said it was fixed but the light remained. We took him at his word but after driving for a while the car was pulling & breaking was not very responsive. It would be helpful to add some guidelines on how to handle bad rental car companies at certain international destinations, like we had some bad experience with Mex Rent a car at Cancun airport. On top of this, if you pay in US$, you get scammed again by their special conversion rate that is at least 30% above market price.

Cons: When we came to the rental office, the agent at the desk was demanding that we need to get additional insurence from Mex, because the full insurence from discover cars does not include third-party demage, and it is mandatory to have it in Mexico. This additional insurance costed almost the same price as the actual car rent, so we paid almost double than we expected.

We were more than an hour late picking up our rental car so we were charged to rent a COMPLETELY NEW car - over 400 dollars more than we had originally paid when booking with Discovercars for only 9 days of using the car. I would NEVER rent from them again or recommend anyone to. If it hadn't been 1am with our 2 kids, we wouldn't have rented the car at all and just ate our Discovercar deposit of $216. Our SUV was downgraded to the cheapest smallest mini vehicle with an empty tank of fuel.

They seem to be running some kind of insurance scam where they claim they cannot release the vehicle to you unless you pay an extra "local insurance" which in every case was almost double the cost of the full rental period. They refused to release the SUV I hired until I asked them to put the refusal in writing. It was at this point they allowed me to take the vehicle however downgraded the vehicle from SUV to the tiniest mini car they had.

This is buried in the fine print of the rental contract. Old car, poor value.
