Hitch Car Rentals is one of the car rental companies serving Christchurch Airport, the second busiest airport in New Zealand and the busiest on South Island. The company offers a large fleet of cars, all equipped with automatic transmission. Hitch Car Rentals offers travelers a free shuttle service from the airport terminal to its nearby facilities.
Pick-up instructions
On arrival at the airport please call the branch for a pickup (0064 0800 939 503) or use the free phones available near the I-Site. Exit out of door 2 and turn right to arrive at the shuttle bus pick up area. Pickup times are usually around 15 minutes (but can vary during busy periods)
Drop-off instructions
Please return your vehicle with a full fuel tank to the branch. Following an inspection of the vehicle our staff will take you to the airport. Please allow at least 30 minutes before you are required to check-in for your flight. . If you’ve booked an after-hours return in Christchurch, you will need to return the vehicle with a full tank of petrol to Airpark Canterbury, hand the keys in at the office and catch the free taxi to the airport.

Cons: For some reason, unable to contact staff for pick up upon arrival. Went thru a lot of hassle to eventually arrange for a pick up after 2 hours. Manager was kind enough to throw in snow chains and waived off airport pick up surcharge. Great effort for service recovery by manager Clayton.

Cons: Poor service.20 minutes to arrange for shuttle from airport. More than 20 minutes to get car after arrival at desk. Only one person at desk to handle contract work, take calls to arrange shuttle, to receive returning cars. Not only that they had amount $100.00nz higher than what I booked. They honoured the contract price.

Pros: Friendly and efficient, didn't have to wait.

Cons: We knew we were renting an older vehicle (2007 Toyota Estima or similar), and we got a 2006 Estima van -- overall it was fine, but one of the side sliding doors was temperamental and wouldn't always close properly, and we also had an issue at one point with the automatic locking device not working. We had to leave the car unlocked at one point, but then the problem resolved the next time we tried it. Probably best to upgrade to newer vehicles at this point. But the price was a good value.

Cons: On returning the vehicle had to wait almost 20 minutes for a staff member to return from the airport. Then we had to wait for them to process all the people before they could drop us back to the airport which was another 30 minutes. Had to remind the staff that if they were going to take a lot longer time was becoming critical for our check in.

Cons: They were very unprofessional. There computers were down when we picked up the car which I realise happens however we heard about how much stress this would cause the agent about 30 times and he didn’t focus on just getting us our car. I also witnessed two of the agents getting angry with each other while we were looking over our car.
