EastCoast Car Rentals at Gold Coast Airport

Pros: Great people, great service

Pros: East coast was up front and honest with me. Staff were friendly.

Cons: No problem with East coast. My problem was with discover cars.

Pros: Great shuttle service with a friendly driver. Plenty of rental agents onsite.

Cons: Because I’d purchased full coverage through Discover Cars the agent at East Coast Rentals tried to get me to purchase their insurance as well by telling me that Discover Cars could be operating out of Lithuania and I’d never hear from them if I tried to make a claim. They try to sell you the insurance by telling you how awful your holiday is going to be because you’ll be charged $5500 for “any incident at all”.

Cons: Unfriendly service person who tried to insist on us taking insurance even though we already had full comprehensive insurance through Discover…she was very icy in her manner when we refused

Cons: We paid for full coverage on discover cars and on arrival had to pay more to reduce our excess as the discover cars one is only a full refund policy and the excess was a whooping $5000 in the event of a crash, which meant we would have to pay that amount straight up before being refunded after who knows how long. Very unclear in the booking process and feel gipped that we paid discover cars and the actually car company to try and not have such a ridiculous excess

Cons: Eastcoast is very unhappy when we said we do not wish to purchase extra insurance from them as we already paid to upgrade insurance from your site. they try ask us to refund the insurance we purchase from you.

Cons: I had to pay insurance for the car twice. Once when booking and once at the car rental. Despite this warning being in booking email. It is obviously a known issue. They would not give me the car without their insurance and wouldn’t put anything in writing. I will be taking this further

Cons: The car seemed to need a service. It had pretty poor pick up and a sticky accelerator. We had an error randomly pop up saying the park brake was engaged, it was clearly not engaged. I reported this upon return and the team quickly put the car in for a service. I called in the park brake error and spoke with a staff member at head office, I would have preferred to speak with the local team to sort out a replacement, being unable to call locally was frustrating.

Pros: Rent a car ok. But don’t buy the insurance from the web site. Because they charge me another 120$ for insurance again

Pros: When we arrived, there was not a car available for us as there hadn't been communication between the 2 companies. However, the lady who served us was great. She managed to move some things around and we were able to eventually leave with the car. I found the car super comfortable and easy to drive. It was fairly spacious with 3 adults and luggage.

The customer also express that you were overseas and was like a fake insurance no value in Australia. I demand that Discover Cars reimburse me the extra amount that I paid to East Coast Car Rental or I will take it with Australia Consumer Affairs I will be waiting for you response.

Cons: The office is a shuttle bus trip from the airport, which chews up 30mins to an hour on each end. They take a holding deposit off your card.. not ideal if you are using money in accounts instead of credit cards. Our car had over 100,000 km and really cheap tyres, so not confidence inspiring.

Furthermore, although I purchased car insurance which covers fully, the agent compelled me to pay the insurance fee which they provide. What on earth is this?
