Airport Car Rental
There’s no escaping the fact that Frankfurt is characterized by the finance industry — its glass towers quite literally dominate the city’s skyline (which, according to many, is the most impressive in Germany). But the largest city in Hesse is also a historic place with plenty to offer in terms of history, architecture, and culture, as well as nearby places to visit. With that in mind, these are three of the most interesting attractions in and around Frankfurt:
- Altstadt. Sitting on the northern bank of the Main River, Frankfurt’s old town is one of the most interesting (and most photographed) areas of the city. Many of the city’s most important landmarks are located in it, including the picturesque Römerberg area with the Town Hall and half-timbered houses on Samstagsberg, as well as Frankfurt Cathedral. Much of the Altstadt was destroyed in the bombing of the Second World War, but restoration efforts have ensured that much of its former glory has been recovered.
- Museums. A sophisticated and wealthy city, Frankfurt naturally boasts many high-quality museums. Some of the best ones include the German Architecture Museum which is aptly located in a splendid 18th-century building, the Jewish Museum of Frankfurt and Old Jewish ghetto, the Portikus Hall of Contemporary Art, and the History Museum, one of the most impressive of its kind in all of Europe.
- Rhine Valley. Following the route of one of the most scenic rivers in Europe, the Rhine Valley (and especially its middle section) is just west of Frankfurt. The region is characterized by natural beauty, impressive hilltop castles, and historical villages. The city of Wiesbaden, one of the largest on the Rhine, is just a 30-minute drive from Frankfurt, while the mythical cliff of Lorelei and the Rhine Gorge can be reached in about 80 minutes. Be sure to make stops in Bingen and Rüdesheim am Rhein, two of the most popular towns in the area.

Visited Kohln, Bruges, Monschau, Trier, and Frankfurt. Monschau is quaint historic town that is worth visiting if one is ever in the area. Bruges is a beautiful historical town in Belgium which is worth spending a couple of days in. Trier is a very nice city with Roman ruins and a picturesque old town well worth spending a few days exploring. Frankfurt is a large city which has a main hub airport, outside of flying in and out of it, we did not spend any time there.

One tip - I received a plug-in hybrid vehicle. It would have been great to receive it charged to 100% (the battery charge was 5% tops) and/or explanations on where to charge it (recommended places, etc.)
